Best Zoos in the World

August 25, 2017

Animals that can no longer live in the wild have found themselves included in one of the many zoos throughout the world. Some of these animals were injured and would have died while in the wild, while others simply did not have what it took to survive out there by themselves.

Zoos have spent years trying to boost the number of animals that are endangered, so that none of them end up being extinct.

Here are the best zoos in the world:

San Diego Zoo
The San Diego Zoo can be found in Balboa Park and there are more than 3,700 animals that call the ninety-nine acres their home. The more popular animals at the San Diego include the polar bears and the giant pandas.

Wildwood Discovery Park
The Wildwood Discovery Park is located in Kent, England. The forty acres is the perfect size for the two hundred different species of animals that live there. The zoo is famous for caring for some of the indigenous animals of the region including the Eurasian lynx.

The Bronx Zoo
This zoo encompasses two hundred and sixty-five acres of land and the zoo has done a magnificent job of creating natural habitats for many of the animals. There are more than six thousand animals at this zoo and many people will find themselves spending quite a bit of time with the gorillas as they watch them eat and play.

Zoo Berlin
This zoo opened back in 1844 and there are more than twenty thousand animals for people to see when they visit. This zoo has the most comprehensive collection of animals in the world, which is why it is the most visited zoo in Europe.

Sao Paulo Zoo
This is the largest zoo in Brazil and it can be found just to the south of Sao Paulo. The zoo has two hundred and four acres of land and more than three thousand animals live there. This zoo opened in 1958 and it has worked hard to preserve the endangered animals of the country.

Beijing Zoo
This zoo is one of the oldest zoos in China and more than fourteen thousand animals live there. The most popular animal at this zoo is the giant panda and people will travel from all over the world to visit them.

These zoos all provide a way for the public to see many wild animals up close in settings that resemble their natural habitat. It is not always the best for the animals, but most of them would not be able to survive out in the wild and many of them would be extinct if it were not for the help of these zoos.

Vacationing in Germany - Sam Dent

February 15, 2017

The history of Germany can be felt throughout the country and people will find that they learn something new everywhere that they go. The countryside is not the same throughout the country and people will find themselves strolling through a vineyard one day and gaping at the Swiss Alps the next.

Here are 5 things that everyone needs to see while they are in Germany:

1. Miniatur Wunderland

In the Port of Hamburg, people will be delighted to see the largest model railroad in the world. The entire model has great details including airports, rural areas, harbors, and cities of every size. Incorporated into the model are 12,000 meters of tracks, 300,000 lights, 890 trains, and 200,000 human and animal figures.

2. Neuschwanstein Castle

Walt Disney did not create his Cinderella castle on his own and this is the castle that he used as his inspiration. People are able to tour the Throne Room and Singer’s Hall and many others will just visit to take phenomenal pictures.

3. The Bradenburg Gate

When the Berlin Wall was constructed, this gate symbolized the division of Berlin for many years. However, now it sits along with the remaining small sections of wall as a reminder of the past. The Brandenburg Gate is twenty-six meters tall and has six columns with a four-horse chariot on the top. The five passages below were what everyone used as they were crossing through years ago, but the center passage was only used by royal carriages.

4. Cologne Cathedral

This Cathedral is also known as the Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Mary. Inside the Three Kings Chapel, visitors can look at the stained-glass windows from the 12th and 13th centuries. There are many precious objects inside the treasury and the panoramic views from the top of the South Towers is priceless.

5. Insel Mainau

In Lake Constance, there is an island called Insel Mainau and it can only be reached by the pedestrian bridge or by boat. The 110 acres are filled with gardens and the entire island has a tranquil feel. Anyone who loves history will want to visit the 18th century defense tower and gatehouse that are still on the island.

With so much history, it is no wonder why people are choosing to spend more time in Germany. They may not be able to forget the horrible past from that country, but they can see the devastation that it caused and move on to create a better future.
